I am a grumpy old man. My grandkids have called me Grumpy, perhaps because when Joel first tried Grampa, it came out sounding like Grumpy. Then again, maybe I really am just a grumpy old man.

I was born and nourished in the Great Depression. Outside of the misery of the many, it was a great time to be a child, and a nickel and a dime would buy a loaf of bread and a pound of hamburger. Then I believe I was tempered as a teenager by World War II.
Those events have always been with me and always will. Hardly anything occurs that doesn’t in some way relate to those years for me, even if just to remind me to ask myself, how was it then, and how would it be had it not been for the strength of the people of those period?
Later, I married Pat, my high school sweetheart, and entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. We have been blessed with two wonderful children, Tim and Julie, who now have their own great mates, and families. We love them all.
Our endeavors have included numerous and varied job and business ventures and included me teaching American Government and Coaching in High School for 10 years. I’ve been retired since 1995, and remain busy filling the days with useless busyness. Never enough time to get it all done. I enjoy the computer, TV, watching sports, walking, and even some yard and housework.
I watch many of the news and political commentary shows and have been known to give the TV a good piece of my mind.
I have no idea whether I will write a little or a lot. I have enjoyed the family blogs that are proliferating and finally just wanted to join in.
Hey Grumpy! Thought I’d drop you a note and tell you that I am in Orlando, FL tonight. (Sunday, Feb. 25th). I am here on business but my boss and I were invited as guests (courtesy of Dell Computers and Seal Shield) to an Orlando Magic Basketball game. We were able to watch the game from their sky box as well as taking a turn at courtside seats for the 3rd quarter. I was surprised to see Patrick Ewing working as a special teams coach with the Magic. I did get some pictures of the game with my cell phone camera, not great shots but reasonable. I’ll send them to you. Also got my mug shot taken with a couple of the Orlando Magic Cheerleaders. Tough job, but somebody’s………you know the rest.
I don’t know how much blogging I will get done either, but thought I’d see what all the fuss was about. BTW, nice pic and love the “Cornbred” handle. Come on down when you finally get cold enough. I happen to know a pretty good travel site where you can book your tickets :o)
Thank ya Timmy. Glad you had a nice trip to Orlando, and yeah somebody’s gotta do it. We’ll remember the travel site. Hope that all works out.
Dad
Grumpy, the greatest thing about retirement is that we get up in the morning with nothing to do, and go to bed with it only half done!
Luv ya….Gram
